Have you installed the proper nvidia drivers ?
And configured X to use them ?
What player are you using ?
What media are you playing the video file from ? [ dvd/cd/hdd ]
What does "hdparm -d <hard disk>" say ? [ Eg : hdparm -d /dev/hda ]
