My thoughts on CDs for distribution
1.Ubuntu may not be right choice, because it is not as popular as
fedora/mandrake/debian. So availability of local help might be a
problem.
2.It is not the number of CDs we can distribute, that matters.
What matters is how many people we can teach?
3.To be effective we should have some way of helping them over next
two or three months. Otherwise we will be like politicians visiting
only during election time and distributing some dole.
4.We need volunteers in flesh and blood for teaching. In my
experience I found, since CDs are dead cheap, the users don't mind
making copies on their own.
5.Why so many people order for Ubuntu CDs which are shipped at cost,
and thus bleeding the project of its money, knowing well they don't
need that many numbers?
6.In the last seminar in Dept.of Legal Studies at MU, over 50 cd sets
were distributed. I feel not one would been used for installing. I
request Ramanraj to comment on this, if he has any contrary
information.
