In today's paper, there is an article on the same, although it claims
the change is due to a price difference,

"The plan to install Linux (Tamil) software has been scrapped, as per
the new proposal. ?We wanted the price to be as competitive as possible,
and the installation of open source software was costing us Rs.100 more
a machine,? said a top official in the IT Department."
------
Is it possible that the service/support cost for linux is more expensive
when compared to windows ? since there are a large no. of technicians
who provide support for windows. I wonder why the high price.
Although, they do mention that the laptops will have open office and
other Tamil softwares, so that is a plus.
