[Ilugc] System.map deleted on reboot with a custom kernel

Hi all,
    I have 2.6.11 vanilla source downloaded and I compiled and copied
the bzImage from arch/i386/boot to /boot, copied System.map to
/boot/System.map-2.6.11 symlinked System.map to System.map-2.6.11 and
rebooted. Booting goes well but when I looked at /boot directory
System.map-2.6.11 is not there. What is happening ? Is System.map is
no more needs to be in /boot/System.map ?
