Its wonderful that someone was able to port their application to Ruby on
Rails and benefit from that, but I have real difficulty believing
applications such as banking applications will ever get any real benefit
from being ported over to Ruby.
Note that the page you have linked to does not talk about the nature of
the application which was ported over - all it says is that 4 days of Ruby
coding was needed for porting over a Java application that took 4 months
to code.
Another critical fact to consider is that the first time you write an
application it is definitely going to take a long time - if this same
application were to be rewritten from scratch in Java (without reusing
existing code), would it take as long as it took to develop it the first
time around? what if this was rewritten for .NET?
Also, a 4 month Java project by 2 people (at most) hardly qualifies to be
called "large."
