Hello,
Perhaps we are all blind men looking at the same elephant here!

Unfortunately, as long there will be people willing to "take
the easy way", there will also be a MicroSoft that leads them
to a beautifully decorated creative dead-end.

you seem to be referring to the tech community.
Please think about the following questions in your own context.
Were _you_ ever a "non-tech" user? If so, how and when did you become
a "tech" user? What would you need to do to become a "non-tech" user
again?
I believe that the answer to these questions will explain my point of
view.
As Albus Dumbledore (echoing the wisdom of the ancients[1]) says to Harry
Potter:
It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far
more than our abilities.

Kapil.
[1] I like the characters and settings of the books though I dislike the
litiginous personality of the author.
