[Ilugc] Problem with soundcard

After doing this when i open xmms,and try playing
some file,it says

Pls check that
1) Your soundcard is configured properly
2) You have the correct output plugin selected
3) No other program is blocking the soundcard.

Am i missing something.Please guide me on this.
Try this as root. 

# cat (some-wave-file.wav) > /dev/dsp*

You should hear some noise. If you hear something ,
then it may be a silly permission issue for non root. 
For locating a wav file, 
Just run 
$locate .wav
after optionally running updatedb as root...

I think you are almost there ! :-)

Normally all apps use /dev/dsp. It could be
/dev/dsp1.1, /dev/dsp2 or any such thing. In case
there is a confusion you can always 
# ln -s /dev/dsp2 /dev/dsp 

in case no /dev/dsp exists and dsp2 is ur real device.


Also as an aside for such sound problems it is better
to use mplayer , mpg321 or even browser flash player
instead of xmms. Just a thought. 

Another good way is to try if aumix works.
