One of the system admins in my earlier jobs instead of running
# rm -rf basedir/subdir
executed the following command
# rm -rf basedir/ subdir -- note the space before subdir
and deleted nearly 2 months of production data in topdir.
He did not lose his job, but his company was heavily
penalized.
