I haven't used a Thinkpad, but Beryl works great for me with Intel
915GM integrated graphics card (and I know others for whom it works
too) with an average of 40-90 fps depending on how many apps are open,
so my guess is that it should work fine for 950 :)
Haven't tried it on an ATI yet.
