Hi ,
Many of you may be using Montavista's Linux based embedded >packages
for your products, running on different platforms. Basically I am
looking for your comments about the MVL pricing, tools and >support.
Plz mail your comments it to me.
We bought Montavista Pro 3.1 for a MPC 8270 (Powerquicc II) Based
custom board. Well my experience says " MONTAVISTA SUCKS" ...... Their
Support/Distributor in India -> Celestial <- have no idea about what
they are selling to you.They make huge promises and you get into big
problems....
Infact we chose a ported distro from montavista to save time, and
after getting the package we figured out that most of the on-chip
peripherals were not supported and our project got delayed by months.
We had to extend help to them in bringing up u-boot/kernel on a
reference board and make them (celestial) realise that their package
had nothing in it. They got us a hacked port which contained the
source from another supplier called "ARABELLA" and still pieces like
DMA and PCI was lost.We wasted so much of time on them.
If you are looking into POWERQUICC then "Arabella" is what you
should be closing in. They offer services that includes bringing up
the bootloader/kernel on your custom board (you save a lot of
resources and time).....
BottomLine: Just make sure you get all that you need from them and get
it confirmed via Emails.... ( Eg:- POSIX Messages are not supported in
many versions , etc ,etc ......... ) and dont use their NFS binaries
:-) .

PS :This is my experience on the "Power Quicc" Platform with
Montavista... i really dont know about the Rest ........
