Greetings!
With some of the ISPs providing free Internet hours,
atleast during odd hours, and with the low price of CD
burners, I feel we should have one (or more) GNU/Linux
CD Maintainers in each area or group of areas that are
close together. The CD Maintainers should either have
Internet connection that provides free Internet hours
AND/OR have a CD burner with which they can burn CDs
(maybe you can charge for the CDs?)
You don't have to write the distros to CDs. With about
5 or 6 common distros and with 40 GB HDD we can easily
download (bittorrent rockz!!) and store the distros,
and burn the CDs when required. It can also be other
GNU/Linux stuff, for instance The_Code_Linux.avi or
Revolution_OS.avi. I should get Revolution_OS.avi
soon, will see how the print is and let you know (700
MB) :)
The idea is that one needn't travel across Chennai to
meet a friend to write or borrow a GNU/Linux CD. So, a
person in Thirunvamiyur can get the CD from a
maintainer in Adayar or from Thiruvanmiyur itself,
rather than travel all the way to say Parrys or
Kodambakkam.
I can take care of Gopalapuram, Poes Garden, Alwarpet.
Similarily there can be CD maintainers for Mylapore,
Santhome, Adayar, Thiruvanmiyur, Kodambakkam, T.
Nagar., Royapettah, Triplicane et. al. Any volunteers?
