Thanks Shakthi. I have been wanting to join a linux mailing list for
some time. I read in wikipedia that in the main list there are around
200-300 messages per day. Is that true?
No , i subscribed with kernelnewbies. I used to get daily 10 to 15 mails. I
don't know about kernel janitors mailing list. I think u r talking about
linux kernel mailing list on VGER.KERNEL.ORG server.
Which is for mainline linux kernel tree mailing list...
LKML is a mailing list of heavy traffic, sometimes it goes upto 500-600
mails per day (especially during release of new kernel version). And, I
don't think its a place where a kernel newbie can ask questions, since
people there are very much into other expert jobs. I have seen a few to
ask questions a bit of off topic considering the normal kind of mails
there, but only a very few get answered (myself have had asked some
questions related to support for nvidia video card some 1.5 yrs back and
got no reply :( )
What is the volume on these lists? Are they manageable?
Can you ask stupid questions there and not get flamed?
People don't flame AFA LKML is considered, they just ignore :D
You have to be soft. Just u can put , i am a new in linux kernel
programming.And start ur question.
Anyway I will right away enroll and lurk for a while.
I have tried to learn something by lurking around in LKML, but often
found things to be too much techy/geeky for a kernel newbie.
One of the things which makes me to still be on the list is to read
occasional mails and replies from Linux Torvalds, Alan Cox and co.. :D ;)
