Apples and Oranges - AFAIK, the Acer 5002 is the only 64-bit
notebook available in India now. No IBM Thinkpad or Dell uses an

while the original battery from my 760xl is still chugging along at nearly

Incidentally, I inspected an Acer 3002 (32-bit predecessor of the 5002)
closely, and the build quality was comparable to the Lenovo-built TP R50e.
In fact, the hinges were sturdier on the Acer than the Thinkpad.
My main complaint is that Acer chose an SiS chipset with UMA instead
of going with separate AGP graphics, for both the 3002 and 5002. I
detest integrated shared-memory graphics - it rates only slightly better
than Winmodems and Rambus on a list of crappy hardware ideas foisted
by marketroids.
I think somebody should bell the cat, and at least check if Knoppix or
similar boots cleanly on the Acer 5002.

Hi People
I installed Fedora Core 4 yesterday on my machine which has 256 MB RAM and a
Celeron 1.7 Ghz Processor and i would say that its really good when compared
to Fedora Core 3 in terms of speed. Its really faster than FC3 but i faced a
problem in Fedora Core 4 with regards to Xorg. i.e. what happened was when
the X-Server is running and when i press Ctrl + Alt + F1 i just got a blank
screen and i was unable to access any of the terminals from F1-F6 and then i
tried searching it in Bugzilla and came to know that its a known bug so i
had to replace the file libvgahw.a with FC3's libvgahw.a and the problem got
solved.

Other than this i would say Fedora Core 4 is a real good distro..

Hello friends!
From my server using samba i mounted few directories to my client.
some files in sub directories gives the following error while saving,

May be you should try to save in another directory. "

Almost every notebook available in India comes with integrated
graphics with shared mem with very few exceptions. Of the Acer models
TM4002WLCi and TM4601WLMi come with discrete AGP (ATI Mobility Radeon
X700 with 64MB RAM). They cost 65K and 72K respectively including a
copy of Win XP Pro. I wrote to Acer and got a response saying TM4601
is also available with Linux OS. Am waiting for the dealer to send me
the price of this. In other brands any model with a discrete AGP is
abv 1 lakh.
Interestingly, another Acer model, Aspire 5500 series (with abv
mentioned graphics card) and almost similar config is available in
Thailand for 50K INR (linux OS)! Considering that it costs just 14K
for a return ticket to Bangkok one can get a notebook and a holiday in
Bangkok for the same price :-)

You should permit the samba client to edit the file. You can configure
it in /etc/samba/smb.conf. You should set 'writable = yes' or
something alike. Dig into it for further details.
