maybe, nitpicking, but how is this (aug 16 1993) the birthday of debian? it is
merely the day on which it was announced - the (practically unusable) release
came later. somewhat usable releases came only sometime in the next year.
those were the days when sls was king, soon to be replaced by slackware. the
first version of this mailing list server (long before the mailing list came
to exist) was a result of switching over from sls to slackware ...
