Dear friends:
I visited IFET College yesterday -- apart from inaugurating Compass,
their computer science association, delivered a talk -- on FOSS, of
course. The current final year students have already taken FOSS
Elective during the last semester (18 of the 20 cleared the paper).
Their HOD, Ms. Nirmala has been striving hard to keep the FOSS spirit
alive.
My talk centered on
a) FOSS Elective (it is one of our mandatory action item)
b) Student project initiatives -- including our Student Fellowship program
c) FOSS for other departments like Mech, ECE, etc. -- the respective
HoDs were keen to know more on this.
d) employment opportunities (with liberal quotes from the offers that
come in ILUG-C)
They are keen on one-day workshop -- preferably on 26th. The idea is
to take about 4-6 students from CSE, IT, Mech, ECE and EEE, totalling
around 30. HoD and one more lecturer are into FOSS already. Another
3-4 lecturers could join the training. I have suggested that the
workshop could start with the formation of a local LUG group. The
follow up actions could be in the form of projects, LDD, etc. The Vice
Principal (my ex-colleague at Arunai) and a few others are keen on
Tamil Language contributions.

Would like to receive responses from others (including suggestion
about date for workshop).
