Hi all:
i get your point ,but giving away source code ,docs et al ,would it not reduce
the sales of the product.Lets suppose ,even if there are bugs or problems ,ppl
wont get back to the developer of the product, but anyone who undestands code
may do that.
So ,the serivce industry ,may fall off.I undertand that helping the community
is great,we develop great software and all philosophies. But does this reach a
point where ppl dont want to write bigger softwares as the overhead in
developing is big and suppose if we dont get proper returns.
I know iam wrong.the above whole thing drives to a singular point.A right
Bussiness model for Free software, with which even *bigger companies can also
partcipate in that.I am sure that even Gates's company has got the best of the
programmers and design engg.I hope they keep to themselves because their work
schedule does not permit them or may be they signed some non-dosclosure
agrreement or whatsoever.
the point is nearly 40-50% developers are not exposed to free software
developing ,though most of them would like to do that.In our ilugc ,i have met
many persons who write non-free software for corporates(almost 99%),though they
find time to work on free-goodies as their passtime.
Which motive drives them to write what they love to do,only in their passtime
but not take it up fulltime.?I think its due to the lack of awareness by
company ppl about the free software and mostly they are afraid of thier
bussineess.thats why i wanted to know about the BUSiness value of free
software.there must be some bussiness designs build around this free softwares.
May be someone inthe group has an idea.
If u had come till here, thanks for reading .I really need an answer.

organization can hope to benefit on free software in two ways 1. Good will that
you have started out the software in use2. Support requests which actually get

However, most ppl would either do it themselves or dont bother investing more.
I think you are geting my point. If you know how to go about it, it is still

Subject: [Ilugc] Business value of Freesoftware
Hi friends,
Can anyone throw some light upon the bussiness model around the free
Softwares(not opensource) and how can an organisation gain by declaring their
Software as free software?Would that not lessen their sales?Enlighten me on the
Bussiness value for Free softwares?
