Just curious, are there any examples of this world class research that
we can look at?  As in, I'd like to know if I am up to this, and I'm
sure there are others who are too.

What kind of work?  Crypto?  NLP?  or anything of our choice?  Is this
the first time this is being done?  Details, man ... :)

you can look at au-kbc.org for details. You can do any work you want,  
but what i was trying to say is that these fellowships are not the  
charitable type - we want to attract the best there is to do the best  
work possible, not run of the mill final year student project kind of  
thing. Or the government 'money is there, lets spend it kind of thing'.
