Many folks run a fanout.do script to do the fanouts. It specifies
certain nets (i.e. power, gnd) and certain max lengths and runs a few
passes, lengthening for each pass. Then it runs fanouts for signals
with less constraints on it.

An example:

fanout 5 (direction out) (max_len 100) (pin_type power)\
         (pin_share off) (via_share on) (share_len 100)
fanout 5 (direction out) (max_len 200) (pin_type power)\
         (pin_share off) (via_share on) (share_len 200)
fanout 5 (direction in_out) (max_len 100) (pin_type power)\
         (pin_share off) (via_share on) (share_len 100)
fanout 5 (direction in_out) (max_len 200) (pin_type signal) (pin_type
power)\
         (pin_share off) (via_share on) (share_len 200)

You get the idea...

Subject: [PCB_FORUM] Very interesting router...

Why does router create unreasonably long and strangely twisted fanouts
for ground and power signals?

Thanks,
