Hi Satish,

I am very surprised that you would be considering learning how to use an obsolete tool. We converted from UniCAD several years ago and, although UniCAD was a great tool for PCB layout, I wouldn't contemplate teaching a new user or starting a new design with it. UniCAD is reasonably intuitive to an experienced PCB designer but there is still a huge amount to set up and learn. When we used the tool we expected new PCB designers to take several months to become proficient - and they didn't have to worry about the library, tech files or the manufacturing output package.

I suggest that you talk to Cadence about upgrading your licenses to Allegro. Alternatively use something like Protel.

If you do need to use UniCAD then running through a tutorial would be invaluable. The UniCAD Design Guide is the next best thing. You will find it under UniHelp/UniCAD Documents/Introducing UniCAD.

Cheers, Dave

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the information.

I am new to this CAD Tool, can you tell me UniCAD "PCB Layout" is it same as UniCAD "Physical Design"?

I contacted Local Cadence Support team for the UniCAD Documents/ Materials to startup, they couldn't get anything till now as it is no longer supported & told to get back soon.

UniCAD Software (Unix) was installed by our Local Cadence Support team sometime back.

I was going through "Unihelp", it is too big. I have to start immediately, so if you can provide the materials it will be very useful.

K. Satish

Satish,

I have a hard copy of the "UniCAD Physical Design" course notes,

however the material is copyrighted, and still owned by Cadence.

Try using the help key (F1) and reading through the help menus,

that should give you most of what your looking for. If not, see if

Cadence is willing to send you soft copies of the course material.

Once you get used to the interface, you find that UniCAD is user

friendly and intuitive (what you see on screen is what you get).

I've also attached two keyboard overlays, one designed for HP

UNIX keyboards and one for PC style keyboards. You'll find that

zooming and panning are best accomplished through the function

            keys.

    Hi,

I am looking for UniCAD Ver 8 (Unix) Tutorials. If any one can
send me Manual or some material on the same in English will be
    very helpful.

    Thanks in advance.
