Thanks for the idea of using letters. I tried the following and it seems to
work in my test case. I am waiting for the engineering group to test it for real.
Use SUBDESIGN_SUFFIX values of single letters. Then set the SubDesign
Separator in the Pxl Advanced setup window to empty. Now I get reference
designators like RN01CAB instead of RN01_3_1_2. This should be sufficient to
fit in 7 characters.
I feel sorry for you with 5 character limits. We have 14 thousand(!) parts on
some boards so this would really hurt us.
