At least with a combined footprint symbol, you can always be sure that
all of the data for
both parts are going to move the same direction/distance. With separate
footprints and
a slot to account for the overlap, there is always the possibility that
one or the other will be
moved slightly and cause problems.

This slot is really the combination of two part holes that are a stuff
one or the other situation.  Is the only solution to create a slot
padstack and place it over the combined existing padstacks, or worse,
create a combined footprint symbol?
