My understanding is that the screen reading capabilities built into android aren't anything to write home about. I suppose it could work with any third party self-voicing apps that might be available. Maybe someday that'll be a reality. I don't think most mal-ware writers are likely to go to the trouble, fortunately.

Actually, in the podcast mention was given to the Orion working with 3rd party software. in fact that is the whole purpose of going with Android, so the blind community can have access to all the android applications. I hope I'm not giving out wrong information, but that is what I understood from the podcast. My big hope for this device is some halfway decent speed in web access and file transfers. I don't know if I'd buy one or not, though, depends on the price and what all my iphone can do by then. I'd sure like to see some info somewhere besides in a podcast. Sorry, I have better things to do than listen to podcasts. On 3/20/2011 13:59, Beth wrote:Hi, all. As I understand it, the Icon and Braille Plus use Linux as a base and a closed system for the user software but the Orion will use android as the operating system and it will be open source regarding user software. It concerns me that the Orion will have this setup, as there have already been many attacks on the android platform regarding virus or trojan, not sure exactly what has occurred. Has a workaround to such attacks been thought out for the Orion? BethIf you reply to this message it will be delivered to the original sender only.
