Carl, I have been experimenting with various distros lately on my (somewhat elderly) Dell Inspirion 7000 laptop. a. Slackware 8: Installed ok but couldn't configure X-windows automatically. b. Mandrake 8.2. Installed ok and configured X-windows ok. Gcc is seriously broken, in their distribution CDs, but I haven't looked on thier web site to see if there are fixes. Perhaps this is your problem. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ c. RH7.2: Everything worked fine there, except windows slop over edges and cntl-alt-+/- doesn't do anything. I'm not done yet.
