[hllug] chmod prob

I am in deep dodo. Here is what I did I tried to remember the numbers for
setting my home directory permissions & I did -Rv 777 and it did that
...changed them & now gnome will not boot & I dunno how to fix it. I can boot
another partition on the same disk have U-12.04 loaded in both partitions. What
is the chmod code & how do I fix my error? sigh
I dunno what I was thinking guess blame it on a senior moment.
