Roy and all,
Yes, unfortunately there are still lingering bad feelings about that Regional
contest so long ago now. The local procedures for that contest were altered for
a couple of reasons and those changes were briefed at the mandatory pilots
meeting before all the contestants. And yes the written document was not
changed causing confusion after the contest. This was my fault since I
volunteered to be contest manager. Your one sided simplification of the events
is one reason we could never reach an agreement between us within the club.
There is much more to the story which is why those external to the contest who
reviewed the whole thing confirmed the results. There is another Regional this
year. Perhaps you can volunteer to be manager. I am sure you would do a fine
job.
That is not what we talked about last night, however. We discussed some tough
issues about summer operations and you were there for all but the final
discussion and vote. There were a lot of facts presented supporting the board’s
decision including couple instances where the tow plane was actually damaged.
The vote didn’t turn out the way you wanted. You have elected to ignore all
the facts that do not support your personal desires and again have presented a
very one sided argument.
The summer operations roster is not complete. It is difficult to put together a
qualified team that gets along, supports our juniors and the other priorities
of the club, and will work for what little we can pay them. We made a few key
decisions last night so we could notify and get commitments from some of the
summer operations employees. This enables others to know their status so they
can find work elsewhere.
If anyone has further questions please call me or talk to any board member who
attended the meeting.
Sean

(Does that make any sense?) Rejected was my Grandson Ryan, who has 750 hours
flying time and 1,100 tows in HHSC Pawnees. Clearly Sean does not care about
flying qualifications and is basing his decisions on personal bias. Be
vigilant of the Summer Ops!
This animosity all stems from a Regional Contest at HHSC when we called out
Sean for an illegitimate win when he just made it back to ELM and could not
have gotten back to Harris Hill. Those rules permitted a second launch if
you got back to HH. The written rules, pre-contest, acknowledged HH site
limitations and permitted a relight from ELM is one got back to HH and could
not safely land because of congestion. Sean’s eastern excursion clearly
shown, on the flight log, demonstrated he could not have made it back to HH.
He won the contest on that illegitimate flight. The resentment of the call
out prevails!
