btw, I like your idea too; base everything on pci ids.

It could also be useful for a beos compatibility database - you could 
have a small client app that looks up all of the pci ids of your 
hardware and asks you for a rating on how well it works and some 
comments. That would really help to get the hardware matrix on 
bedrivers.com up to date.

There's still new users discovering beos so it would still be a useful 
feature - the recent downloads list on bebits has always been around 
the 1000 downloads every 4 days from the R5 PE page for the last 4 
years or so.

Thinking about hardware support - it would be nice to have a list of 
drivers that are in the haiku repository somewhere. That way any 
current BeOS users looking to upgrade could make sure there purchases 
would work with Haiku as well as R5.
