I am not sure whether the adagium 'don't feed the trolls' also extends to 'don't feed the conspiracy theorists,' but I will try nonetheless. Google has expressed their interest in the GSoC program because it basically gives students their first work experience. Google is very interested in recruiting talent from colleges, and this program is for them a way to help them approach and select better. This is not to say that there is no will to help OSS at Google, but it is not pure philantrophy either. Google does not decide which students get picked. Google does not decide which projects they are able to participate in. Their power extends to the point of accepting an organization or not, and dividing up the slots, beyond that point everything is basically open for the orgs to decide for themselves. Kind regards, Niels
