Actually, while software patents are illegal in the EU, the EPO grants a
lot of those regardless...
And a new directive proposal is attempting to include software in the
patent corpus again:

The vote has been postponed IIRC, I encourage every EU citizen to get
involved, a new campaign to call the MEPs should be launched soon.
