Apparently, it has to do with your work on weak-symbols. But IIRC, those
are only used for GCC4?

No, the only difference for shared objects built with the current gcc 2 is that they are still linked with -Bsymbolic, so that symbol preemption doesn't work. Furthermore for shared objects built with an old (BeOS) gcc 2 our runtime loader resorts to a different symbol resolution algorithm -- one similar to the one BeOS used.
