There's no portable method, AFAIK. Have a look at
src/bin/makebootable/platform/bios_ia32/makebootable.cpp to see ones for
BeOS, Linux, and FreeBSD. Haiku has a new disk device API, which provides a
nicer interface to get the offsets of partitions.
