FWIW: +1. Since our releases are so far apart it might even be worth to continue back-porting fixes for major issues to the alpha branch and update the R1A4.x image from time to time. Though I don't know how much work that would be. There's obvious the back-porting work itself, testing the new release candidates, updating the website, updating the mirrors.
