Lab hours would be awesome. I'd really like to see some kind of community
learning tracks or resources guides of some kind. An example would be
directing people to a well established tutorial as base material and then be
able to use the lab/in person events to work off of that. Maybe it's just a
preference in learning but there's only so much that can be taught either
on-line with no community, or in person with a very limited amount of time.
Just a thought.

As much as we would have good intentions, instead of setting up a
separate list, might it be better to point people to the programming
language lists and irc channels?
People should always feel free to ask questions here, though. If there
is a lot of software-heavy traffic, then maybe we could split it off?
Once I have more ability to be in the shop, I would love to assist in
working a lab/office hours in the shop though!

Folks,
Various people have expressed interest in learning python and/or other
programming languages. Certainly there are tons of programming
resources on the internet, but I'd be glad of an opportunity to give
back a little.
Of course anybody can ask me directly, or here on the list, for
programming advice. But besides the python class that's been discussed,
how would people feel about a slightly more formalized effort to help.
Possibly a separate mailing list for programming project questions. Or
even use this list, although I can understand people might want a little
more privacy for their beginner fumblings. Or even a semi-regular "lab
hours" at the shop.
