Slack, yet another proprietary protocol. Why do people insist on
allowing themselves to be completely closed off and completely at the
whim of other people?

I was thinking that, although at the moment I can't do the in-shop
programming lab, I could certainly hang out on an IRC channel and
answer programming questions while hacking on other stuff.
