Speaking of organization, I put the list on a wiki page:
http://www.hackpittsburgh.org/wiki/index.php?title=ElectronicsShop
If nobody minds I might go through the wiki as a whole sometime and
organize it a bit more informatively. There's a lot of junk there that
was last updated in 2013 or such.

Thats awesome Joachim! The problem is organization. I always knew we had tons of stuff, but finding it is the problem. We talked about a resistor sorting machine project at one time even. Thank you for sorting the stuff. I once tried to sort my own giant bag of resistors and did only 25% of it before I gave up. That takes a lot of patience.

Hello all,
I have been going through some of the electrical component
inventory that we have and sorting it(very soothing). I just want
to give ya'll an idea of some of the awesome stuff that's there
for the using. It's a lot. Like HUGE metric tons worth of
stuff. So if you need parts for projects please take a look
through some of the draws and boxes of components or ask me where
something might be. That's what they are there for. For you to
make your projects awesome. All those components are getting
pretty lonely sitting in all those boxes. USE THEM PLEASE!!!
Here's some of the stuff I found today that might be useful to people:
>555 timers like 100 of them and some 556 dual timer variety.
>Voltage regulators all varieties, adjustable, 3.3v, 5v, 12v, etc,
>Resistors, millions of resistors, MILLIONS I TELL YOU!! All brand
spanking new.
>Capacitors, millions of those too. Under the shelf by to the
right of the soldering station there is a whole big box with jars
full of ceramic caps in them if the ones in the little draws are
not enough.
>Logic IC's, AND, OR, NOR, inverter, counters, latches, tons of
that kinda stuff if you like.
>Lots of micro controller chips like PIC16C65 and tons of other
variations with many pins or just a few pins. I also saw a bunch
of ATMEL ATMEGA marked chips.
>Vacuum tubes, you know, those things with nothing inside.
>Transistors of all types and sizes and such. A fair amount of
the old can style if you want to make your project retro vintage
steam punk style. Some nice power MOSFETs too.
>Diodes, including zener, rectifier, bridge rectifier, fast
recovery, signal, oh and lots of LEDs too.
>Incandescent light bulbs, mostly small and low voltage. Some neon
lamps and indicators. Also a bunch of green neon lamps which are
kinda cool and rare.
>Tons of sockets, plugs, headers, pins, terminal strips, serial
port plugs, mitty, audio, and all kinds of stuff like that to make
your own custom cords.
>Copper clad boards. To the right of the solder station against
the white board there is a flat box with huge about 2 foot by 1
foot double sided copper clad boards. Make awesome printed circuit
boards!!
>Relays, 5 volt, 12 volt, solid state, big ones, small ones, etc.
>Switches, lot of switches. Toggle, push button, soft ones,
tactile ones, lighted ones.
>Pots, no not drugs silly... potentiometers, multi turn, single
turn, 10k, 20k, trimmer, etc.
>Metal and plastic nuts, bolts, and lots of standoffs and hardware.
>And lot of other cool stuff for YOUR projects.
PLEASE USE THE STUFF AT THE SHOP TO MAKE COOL PROJECTS!!! That's
why it's there.
To find the stuff you need you can either look through the little
draws and boxes hidenseek style or ask me and I should be able to
tell you an approximate place of where a specific component might
be located.
Also more sorting and organizing needs to be done with all the
electronics stuff. I've been working on it but there is a lot of
stuff so if anyone else is interested in helping at the shop clean
to organize I'm coming down in a bit. That corner by the solder
station really needs cleaned up more.
Thank you!
Best,
-Joachim
