Hello. I ended up going with Talking Caller Id from www.talkingcallerid.com which is very speech friendly and meets my needs.
To answer Laura's question. I use fortune from Linux to randomly generate signatures. I wrote a little script and it does this for me each time I write a new message. I don't use Windows for email so I can take advantage of Linux utilities for this.
