Flash flooding, landslides and heavy rain cause travel chaos across UK Britain is bracing itself for another day of disruption to transport links, power supplies and schools following yesterday's severe wet weather. 'The line is unlikely to re-open until tomorrow morning.' A Virgin Trains service from London to Glasgow was left stranded in the Lake District for more than two hours between two landslides before being diverted. A fire then broke out in the front coach of the train later in the journey forcing the carriage to be evacuated near Lockerbie. Last night, the east coast railway route was closed by a 30-tonne landslip near Berwick and the west coast was hit by several landslides between Lancaster and Carlisle. On the west coast mainline, trains were trapped by the landslides until they were removed by early evening. The man who died was named locally as Mike Ellis and believed to be in his 60s. He was swept away in a swollen stream in Bitterley, near Ludlow, Shropshire, after parking his car and getting out to walk home.
