Britain is bracing itself for another day of disruption to transport links,
power supplies and schools following yesterday's severe wet weather.

Rail lines between England and Scotland were blocked by landslides while the
north of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland were all hit by heavy storms.
Ten flood warnings remain in place today.
Torrential rain lashed Britain, with giant hail stones, lightning and tornadoes
all reported.
East Coast Trains has cancelled all its services between Newcastle and
Edinburgh due to floods.
An East Coast spokesman said: 'Network Rail is working hard to fix the line
quickly following various problems caused by the severe weather experienced
yesterday.
'The line is unlikely to re-open until tomorrow morning.'
Parts of the Midlands experienced almost an inch of rain in just one hour
yesterday - a third of the average rainfall for the whole month of June.

Thousands of homes in the north of England were hit with power cuts because of
the bad weather. School, libraries and leisure centres will remain shut today.
This month is expected to be one of the wettest Junes on record.
A Virgin Trains service from London to Glasgow was left stranded in the Lake
District for more than two hours between two landslides before being diverted.
A fire then broke out in the front coach of the train later in the journey
forcing the carriage to be evacuated near Lockerbie.
Last night, the east coast railway route was closed by a 30-tonne landslip near
Berwick and the west coast was hit by several landslides between Lancaster and
Carlisle.
On the west coast mainline, trains were trapped by the landslides until they
were removed by early evening.

Elsewhere, the torrential rain left one person dead and flooded many homes and
businesses.
The man who died was named locally as Mike Ellis and believed to be in his 60s.
He was swept away in a swollen stream in Bitterley, near Ludlow, Shropshire,
after parking his car and getting out to walk home.
Luckily, the weather is set to improve in most parts of the UK today.
