I started secondary school in 1955 and this is about punishment given out by
some of the
teachers. Metal work teacher. If you did anything wrong. He made himself a
special poker which he used to poke us with , usually in the ribs. If he was
really mad with you he just lashed out and hit you anywhere on the body.
Woodwork teacher made you bow to Ala., then whack you across the backside
with a piece of 2 by 1 inch length of wood.
mR. Thursby, he used a slipper across your face and Mr. LLancaster, He use to
walk behind you on the corridors and thump you between the shoulder blades.
Then of course if you did anything really bad. the leather strap off the
headmaster. any thing up to six strokes. Happy days.
If you told your parents you got told off again, so nothing was ever said.
