Hi All, Ella, my first Guide Dog, retired on the 22nd of April and went to a good home farther up north from me. The new owners got in touch with me a few days after they got her and told me that she had settled in well with them. The new owners are a retired couple and they lost their pet dog last summer and decided to apply for a retired Guide Dog rather than get just any dog. They have managed to get accustomed to stopping at kerbs and steps as Ella still thinks that she is working. Hopefully, Ella will have a long and enjoyable retirement with them. I got my second Guide Dog, Zita, on the 23rd April and started training on the 26th April. I trained from home as it was the best available choice for myself and the Trainer. We did our qualifying walk on the 7th May and past with flying colours. We then did another weeks training to tidy a few things up. Now the hard work begins for the both of us. Zita is a complete contrast to Ella but a pleasure to work with and look after. Where Ella was not a very playful dog, Zita will play all day long, even after an eight mile walk. She has a severe dog distraction problem but we are working on that and things are improving slowly. She is a yellow Labrador, as was Ella, but a much livelier model. Thank you Angela for your message and hope that things continue to go well. I have a Halter for Zita, which is the same idea as the Gentle Leader, and certainly helps in controlling the distraction problem. Alex
