I don't remember food rationing, but I vaguely recall boiling washing in a
copper boiler. I remember the first washing my mother bought, and it gave me an
awful fright when I heard it going. I don't think we bathed in the same water,
although it was heated up by a coal fire. I think food rationing must have
finished by the time I was born.
