You can give non-admins the right to install printer drivers via GP, but
it won't help if they need to be able to create the printer itself.

The setting I'm referring to is "Prevent users from installing printer
drivers" under Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security
Settings\Local Policies\Security Options, but that is mainly there to
enable the addition of network printers by non-admins when the printer
driver doesn't already exist on the machine.

Thank you Jamie...that's exactly what I thought. I saw a MS article on
how to manipulate either a folder or registry key for driver
installs...i.e. giving rights to install anything, not just local
printers, which is risky but seems the only way to do so.

I appreciate the reply...have a great Monday!

I don't think you can do that because there is no user right assignment
policy specifically for creating a local printer. You could, however,
use the new GPP preferences to create the printer for them. Don't know
if that helps you out much, but it is an option.

Anyone have any ideas how this can be done via GP?

Thanks in advance!

Subject: [gptalk] LOCAL Printer install

Hi All...

I think I know the answer to this, but wanted to run this by everyone.
Is there a way to grant users the ability to add LOCAL printers withOUT
making them local Admins? They are power users.

Thanks in advance.
