It works correctly for all GPO's when viewed on one machine, but shows
nothing for all GPO's when viewed from another machine, Re adding the ADM
templates doesn't help. I presume you are using the same user id in each
case and so security on the files would not be an issue.

 

Darren's suggestion that it is looking locally is a possibility, but would
require the local templates to be corrupt as well. Check the machine
registry Key "Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Group Policy" for a value
OnlyUseLocalAdminFiles. If present, delete it (note: It may return after a
policy refresh if it is set by Policy).

 

It is a long shot, but you may wish to navigate to the actual adm file from
the failing machine to just confirm you can read the files using notepad.
They are on the sysvol under
<file:///\\domainname\sysvol\policies\domainname\guid\ADM>
\\domainname\sysvol\policies\domainname\guid\ADM where guid is the guid for
a particular policy.

 

If that doesn't fix it I would try reinstalling GPMC

OK.  I have now tried this too.  I have them installed on a different

server, and they show up fine on that server.  I tried re-installing on

the original server, but they show up the same.

Okay, you re-installed them on a GPO, but if the templates are corrupt

in the first place that won't do any good. You should try completely

overwriting what is in your C:\WINDOWS\inf folder with a fresh install

from the link I provided below.

I have already re-added the templates manually.  It goes through the

process just fine, it asks if I want to copy over the current template.

I agree, but when I close, the template still is not visible.

I have gone to Administrative Templates --> View --> Filtering and

changed settings there to no effect.  Is there somewhere else I can

check for filtering?

 

How do I correct it if GP Editor is looking on my local machine instead

There's two possibilities here. The first is that you have GPEditor

somehow

stuck into filtering something like showing only those policies that are

configured or for a certain OS. The other possibility is that you have

configured the policy whereby GP Editor only looks on your local machine

in

c:\windows\inf for ADMs and not in the SYSVOL part of the GPO, AND your

local ADM store is incomplete. 

 

That would be my best guess.

It is happening regardless of the one I edit.  Even our old long

standing default policy only has 'Windows Components' listed under Admin

Templates.

When I go into my Group Policy Object Editor my default administrative

templates are not showing up.  I go to administrative templates, but the

only thing listed under that is WIndows Components (even under that is

incomplete).  I have tried manually to add templates back, but they

still will not show up.

 

I have checked the filtered views, and that does not help. I have had

this issue a few weeks ago, but then the issue strangely just went away

and I was able to view all my templates again.  Now the problem is back.

I have not made any changes.  I was happily editing my policy, then I

closed it, re-opened it, and I could no longer see all my templates.
