-------- Original Message -------- Subject: Voice Sense and GW Sense Navigation Upgrade Date: Fri, 29 Feb 2008 16:35:01 -0500 From: Dan Weirich <dan@xxxxxxxxxxx> To: <gw-notetaker@xxxxxxxxxxx>, <gw-info@xxxxxxxxxxx> We introduced the Voice Sense last summer and it has been very popular, especially for people on the go. Now it is even better as we announce the release of version 1.2. The detailed list of features would fill a few pages so I will include only the highlights. Functionality. The Voice Sense behaves even more like Microsoft Windows by easily returning to your previous applications and giving more feedback when application switching. The pronunciation dictionary was totally redesigned to make it much easier to use. Efficiency. For those who use their Voice Sense all day plugged into the wall outlet, the power saving feature is now disabled. The Voice Sense is always ready to work. When using the Word Processor with a QWERTY keyboard, the Voice Sense will automatically default to text as soon as you plug it in or pair with a Bluetooth keyboard. When reading email simply pressing the ENTER key will open the message and the Voice Sense will automatically begin reading. We also sped up downloading web pages and files. Overall Improvements. The cursor tracks closer to the voice when you are reading long documents. Bluetooth devices will remain paired to the Voice Sense even after reviving or upgrading. When you use ActiveSync, you can synchronize with Windows XP, Vista, Outlook 2003 or 2007. When using the Media Player you can change the speed of WMA files just like MP3 or OGG files. In addition, with the Media Player you can easily append your playlist using the File Manager. If you also own GW Sense Navigation then this same upgrade gives advanced navigation features that are unrivaled in the AT industry. One of the hottest new ways to create a route is to do it directly from your Points of Interest, POI list. For example, you can search or browse for a restaurant and immediately press ENTER-D (for drive there) or ENTER-W (for walk there) and we create a route from your present location to the restaurant. This is similar to the commercial GPS systems to which many drivers are accustomed. Now you can more easily add any waypoint to your POI list. For example, if you are riding with a friend and want to search for a restaurant or address 30 miles away, you no longer have to search from your current position. You can easily move through your waypoints along your route and search from there instead. This makes the process much easier. Some times less is more. Now when you walk down the street you choose to turn off the announcement of street names as you pass them. The choice is yours. For those using both the Voice Sense and SyncBraille together, you now get simple codes to describe the data instead of the full word such as lp instead of "look around point of interest." Sometimes more is more. Creating long routes can sometimes take a long time so now you hear a beep every 2 seconds as you create it. Now with the upgrade, when using the SyncBraille each time a beep plays, a Braille cell will fill the display. This can be like a progress indicator, to let you know that it is working. The best way to upgrade to this new firmware is by using the online update from the Voice Sense. Simply press U twice from the main menu, and then choose the Upgrade Online option. The Voice Sense will require an active wireless Internet connection in order for the online upgrade to work. If you do not wish to use the online upgrade, you can use the offline option. To do this, you will need to download the firmware from our web site by going to http://www.gwmicro.com/Support/Downloads/?category=Voice+Sen se+Support+Files When you choose the firmware version 1.2 link you will get instructions for installing the upgrade, a change log link which lists all the changes since the beginning and of course a download link to download the file.
