MOGA 2005
http://r26.vresp.com/?St.LouisAreaGeocache/546dd84b80/352965/TEST/TEST

This spring, the Midwest Open Geocaching Adventure (MOGA) was sponsored by
SLAGA and held at Meramec State Park, near Sullivan, Missouri. The weather
and turnout was great! Learning from the lessons of a similar event held
in 2004, the competition courses were tweaked and the staff more prepared.
On Friday, April 8, people from out-of-town were able to find a camp site
and get a head-start debriefing on the park rules (camping, speed limit,
out-of-bound areas, etc.). At the 'cracker barrel that evening, there
was a trivia contest for food coupon prizes and night caches were released
for hunting.

All the competition took place on Saturday, April 9. Anyone who attended
and only wanted to hunt the event caches were given the cache coordinates
and hints. That evening at the 'cracker barrel', the park naturalist gave
a presentation and there was other entertainment.

Sunday morning, April 10, competition awards and attendance prizes were
handed out. Anyone who still wanted to hunt the event caches could do so.

For a list of competition winners, to watch short videos of the event , or
to order full DVD coverage, go to

stay tuned for information about MOGA 2006, which will be held
around the same timeframe next year.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Cacher - 'butch'
There aren't many people who know who 'butch' is (that's not his
registered geocaching name). In fact, very few people have ever met him.
He has always kept a low profile, which is his prerogative. He was one of
the first geocachers in St. Louis and the man-to-beat, at one time, for
First-to-Find (FTF). His 'Blood' cache
(http://r26.vresp.com/?St.LouisAreaGeocache/5f857f2ddf/352965/TEST/TEST) in
Emmennegger park is legendary and the spark for other caches of a
similar setup (such as at MOGA 2005).

He rarely logged his finds on geocaching.com. He is best known for his
cache hides in scenic places throughout the foothills of southern
Missouri. For example, Slabtown Cave, Greens Cave Overlook III, Bell
Mountain Wilderness. All of his cache placements can be found at:
http://r22.vresp.com/?St.LouisAreaGeocache/b85f392da2/352965/TEST/TEST.
Recently, butch archived many of his remaining active caches. We
don't know why, but again - that is his prerogative. Out of a total of 16
cache butch has placed, the only one of his that is still active is
X-treme Eleven Point Overlook (GC4B44).

  Summer Picnic
http://r29.vresp.com/?St.LouisAreaGeocache/73ef9bf80a/352965/TEST/TEST
A summer picnic has been planned for Saturday, July 16th at Whitecliff
Park in the city of Crestwood. The picnic will run from noon until 4pm.
This will be a very laid back picnic event. It is in no way intended to
compete with our Spring and Fall picnics, so there will be no attendance
prizes, auctions, or any advanced planning needed (which should be pretty
obvious at the picnic).

The city of Crestwood has donated this shelter for us to use along with
vouchers for access to the pool/water park. Normal admission will be
charged to the pool but access is normally for Crestwood residents only.
Also near the pool is a new playground. Unfortunately the new shelter near
the pool is reserved every weekend through the summer, so we will use the
shelter very near the entrance to the park, which actually has a lot more
privacy, but requires a short walk or drive to the playground and pool.
There are 2 small pits, water, porta-potty, but no electric.

Since this is intended as a picnic get together, SLAGA will provide
charcoal for those that want to cook burgers or brats, or ? but everyone
should bring everything for their families (food, plates, drinks, etc). If
anyone wants to bring something to share, that's great, but not required.

Pool Prices
Adult ( ages 13-61 ): $7
Youth ( ages 4-12 ): $5
Senior ( ages 62+ ): $5
Age 3 and under: Free

Please see

Fall Picnic
http://r42.vresp.com/?St.LouisAreaGeocache/253238b872/352965/TEST/TEST

This picnic will be held at Onondaga Cave State Park on September 24,
2005. Picnic time is 12:00 p.m. This picnic is for SLAGA Members and Non
Members.

Onondaga park does have spaces for camping and RVs. No Cabins. However
right across the river from Onondaga is Ozark Outdoors which has cabins, a
motel, camping, etc. If you go to their website you can see what all they
offer.

There is electric and water at the shelter.

SLAGA will be cooking hamburgers, hotdogs, brats, and providing utensils,
plates, cups and napkins. All this for $3 per adult and $2 for kids 11 and
under. There will be a registration table at the picnic where you can sign
up and pay for this there.

SLAGA does ask you to please bring a side dish, dessert, chips, or drinks.

Plans are still in the works and this will be updated as things get
planned so just keep an eye out on the event page.

Activities:
Silent Auction

We are planning a silent auction. All proceeds are to go to SLAGA. So we
are asking for donations for this. Please no junk. Item doesn't have to be
caching related. Just contact us Jen & Matt if you have a donation letting
us know.

Temporary caches

We are planning on having 15 - 20 for you all to hunt. We plan on place
about 4-5 for KIDS ONLY. Thundermonk, Cubs, & Tim (of Tim, Pam, & Molly)
has offered to help with placing these.

Onondaga Cave Tour

There is also an opportunity to tour Onondaga Cave at a reduced rate. The
cost is $5 for adults, $4 for kids 13-19, & $2.50 for kids 6-12. Two tours
have been set up. The time for the tours is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. and
3:15 p.m.

There is a max. of 30 people per tour. Please send us an email if you
would like to tour Onondaga Cave. Jen & Matt

This is our first picnic to plan and we are always open for suggestions.
So if you have any ideas to share just email us. Thanks
