I also use a lap top with GPS connected to it while traveling. I set
it on the center console and it works great. Obviously, with a car a few
feet in front of me, he gets my attention over the laptop. Bernie

My paperless set up is a laptop (which is far superior to any PDA for car navigation (other then it is harder to hide and secure form crooks),
How the heck do you watch a laptop screen while driving?
I have no doubt the screen real afforded by a laptop would be great, but I'd be scared to death of plowing into the guy in front of me if I had that sitting on the passenger's seat (where else can you put it to be useful?).
OTOH, a pda and appropriate mount (windshield or vent louver) can be glanced at frequently without that same fear. I can get all the detail I *need* on the screen.
