To be quite honest when I travel I get two caches per state that cover the bulk of my route. Then I load in all 1000 waypoints so if I decide to take a detour or get forced to take a detour I can still find some caches along the way.

In Streets and Trips you can find nearby places. Select the entire route. All the caches within the limits you set will show up in the nearest places list. You can then edit each cache and move it to a new bookmark list.

By the way if you have ExpertGPS you can do this even easier. If you create a route and do a search along the route it will only show the resulting caches. You save that file and you are done. Much easier.

I eventually got past step 7. I don't know what happened, but I wasn't getting the menu where you select the search distance and "around". After a few tries, it worked and now I cannot see what I did wrong.

I have easy GPS and use it from time to time.. I may give that a try.

When I'm traveling I need something easy and foolproof (well, anytime!). I keep the e-Trex on the dash in a cell phone holder, the laptop sleeping with GSAK and S&T running, and next trip I'll have a pocket PC running GPX Sonar. It's nice when they all show the same stuff. :-)
