[GameTalk] static problem in pipe2

HI all
All of a sudden I've been recently experiencing some static problem in
pipe2. its as if the game responds slowly. I have been experiencing this
most recently, for very long, say a year, I have been playing pipe where I
didn't had this problem. I have jaws unloaded completely. The only thing
that is active besides the pipe game is my dial up connection. No other
programs are running.
What could cause this slow response? For instance on the side scrollers my
footsteps sounds inconsistent, it sounds like a drunk guy walking. Or on
the bonus level the game responds slowly if I fire my gun, so where I
normally made it to 12 thugs I only made it this time to 9 thugs because
the game takes longer to respond to me hitting control.
The same on pipe fitting levels.
