I bought DOOM 3 the week it came out, and then sold it to someone (at a 
loss, *sigh*) the next week because the game-play was annoying me so 
much.  The entire time I was playing it, I kept thinking, "I'd really 
rather be playing Thief if I'm going to look at a dark screen."

I'll probably buy it again at some point though, because there are some 
folks doing an awesome Thief-style mod (www.thedarkmod.com).

I'd really love to go the route of Floodgate Entertainment... being able 
to do an expansion (Shadows of Undrentide) for an existing game 
(Neverwinter Nights) seems like an awesome way to get started.  On the 
other hand, I have no idea what (if anything) they're doing now.
