Training Class Name -
Community Energy Efficiency Coordinator Training
Who Can Participate - There are 15 training slots available for this program.
You must presently be unemployed and in the NY State Department of Labor
database
Class Location - to be finalized. At this time plans are to run the program in
South Hempstead, Nassau County though discussions are underway concerning
changing this class location to the Melville area. Some classes may also be
held in a lab location in Brentwood
Class Schedule - Class will run 3 days per week for 4 weeks beginning in mid
April
Fee - There is no cost to participate in this training program

Course Description
The goal of this Unemployed Workers Training program is to assist in the
development of a mass market for home energy efficiency across all of Long
Island. Increased energy efficiency in built structures is critical as a
stepping stone to renewable energy sources and Cleantech. At the same time this
effort will stimulate the creation of a "Culture of Conservation" by homeowners
and small business people that can deliver environmental savings opportunities
that go beyond energy alone.
LI Green, a not for profit tax exempt 501.c.3 corporation affiliated with the
Advanced Energy Center at Stony Brook University operates a community program
to provide free energy evaluations and consultative services for Long Island
homeowners. Presently we have provided services to over 1600 Long Island
families. Expansion is underway to help more Long Islanders. This will require
the training of a cadre of highly skilled energy efficiency technicians to meet
the demand that we are seeing for our services.
Participants in this training will acquire work skills that are applicable to a
large number of employment opportunities with not for profit community
organizations, local government agencies, contractors, HVAC companies,
engineering companies and others. The class will also provide the core skills
necessary for students to successfully challenge the test for the Building
Performance Institute's "Building Analyst" certification, a major starting
point for career growth in this field.
