the requirement is expressed in 8.6 release notes, B0700SD.

quote

7.4.2 Reinstalling V8.6 Release Update after a Day 1 Process

When modifying a workstation's configuration to add new components through
the Day 1 process,
the Day 0 CD is required. This may place out-of-date components on the
workstation. Once
you complete the Day 1 process, you must repair the I/A Series version 8.6
Release Update.
Additionally, if you have installed any 8.6 quick fixes, you must also
perform a repair on the 8.6 quick fixes.

The actual procedure is laid out elsewhere in the same document.

Once the pass through commit process (rev level is skipped) has completed
and reboot performed, the InFusion Galaxy Repository fails to start the
FRSexec.exe process, and thus deploy does not perform. In launching this
executable file the deployment now works fine.

through commit rules as we could not find any documentation regarding
performing pass through commit on InFusion Galaxy Repository.
