I can answer the SA85 hardware issue: Absolutely it can be configured as a slave device - we use it as such all the time for our gateway devices (FieldServers). Obviously the driver software you are using with the SA85 needs to be written to incorporate slave mode operation. We could help you with a Modbus-Plus to Modbus/TCP link and get the SA85 card out of your server - contact me if you are interested. Setup is as follws: The process control software (Kepware) resides on a standalone windows 2000 computer (this is a server machine). The SA 85 card is configured on this PC as well. The communication to be established is with DCS via Modbus Plus. Dcs is Master and the (Kepware)Floatstar is Slave. All requests are initiated from DCS. The holding registers in the Floatstar is 400001-40000*. The device ID of Floatstar is DS.1.0.0.0.0. which means Device ID is 1. When we switch ON the compounds, the ECB Fails with time out errors, indicating no response from the SA85 card. We spoke to local Schneider assistance and they categorically stated that SA85 status as Master and cannot be changed - ever. Also we found that we can chage in Kepware software from Master to slave. But we are not definitely sure that the card assumes slave role, ie., on both sides of the connection - not just in it's relationship to Kepware connection - but also in the SA85 to the rest of the Modbus Plus relationship? Could somebody tell us this communication has been physically done in a known plant? If so, please help us thanks suman -- _______________________________________________ 1 cent a minute calls anywhere in the U.S.! http://www.getpennytalk.com/cgi-bin/adforward.cgi?p_key=RG9853KJ&url=http:// www.getpennytalk.com ___________________________________________________________________ This list is neither sponsored nor endorsed by The Foxboro Company.
